On paper, every option looked right. That was exactly the problem — Maya couldn't tell which 'yes' was hers.
Maya arrived with a decision that had been circling for months: stay and step into a bigger role, or leave for something new. Both were sensible. Both could be defended to anyone who asked. That was exactly the problem — every option looked right, and none of them felt like hers.
The real question
We slowed it right down. Underneath the tidy pros-and-cons lists was a quieter question she had been talking past for months: not where the title would land, but what she wanted her ordinary days to feel like.
So we stopped weighing the options and started describing the life. What did a good Tuesday look like? Which parts of her current work would she genuinely miss, and which had she simply gotten used to? The decision, it turned out, wasn't between two jobs. It was between two versions of herself.
Listening past the noise
Maya was used to making decisions with a spreadsheet. The harder skill was learning to trust the quieter signal underneath the analysis — the one that had been there all along, just drowned out by everyone else's expectations of what she should want.
We practiced noticing it. Where did she lean forward when she talked? Where did her energy lift, and where did it flatten into obligation? She already knew the answer. She simply hadn't given herself permission to call it valid.
The decision
Once the real question was on the table, the choice stopped being a tie. Within three sessions she had made the call — and for the first time in a long while, she felt settled rather than second-guessing. It wasn't that the other option was wrong. It simply wasn't hers.
